I am not going to rehash everything that is on PTR right now, it’s just to much. I do think they are making some wise choices about how certain spells interact with mobs (i.e. Avenger’s Shield, Cleave, Chain Lightning, Swipe). On the other hand they are also giving in to much.
I found this on Mania Arcania the other day and didn’t really think about it until it was brought up in our Kara raid last night:
Multi-Shot: This ability will no longer strike any secondary targets which are under the effect of crowd-control spells that break on taking damage. i.e. Polymorph, Sap, etc.
What does that mean? While all of the above spells have a single target plus surrounding mobs AOE effect, I feel that Blizz is giving up to much in the way of play experience. As much as I love to use my Avenger’s Shield to pull on my paladin and I love being able to sheep with my mage. Learning when and how to use these abilities shows in the experienced players.
I feel that there is a big difference with this change in how people that don’t know their class can hide in plain sight, so to speak. For example, heck I’ve actually done this with my pally. I asked the mage to sheep and mistimed my Avenger’s Shield. The sheep would go off and a half second later my shield would bounce and hit the mob. Not to bad, the mob is slowed and the mage has time to resheep. My intention was for the shield to hit, generate threat and then the sheep to happen. I have learned alot about calling for the CC right as my shield is going out.
Yes this is easier to play in groups now and there are more opportunities to use these types of spells. I just feel that they are giving the people that haven’t gotten past basic tactics the ability to infiltrate more skilled players.
We’ve all seen this or heard the stories of the repeat shackle/sheep/sap breaker. It was a tell tale sign that something wasn’t right. Now with this change you won’t know, there is no indication that said person maybe boosting about their skills when they really have none.
I’m just glad true AOEs aren’t being affected by this change.
