Well As most of you know I am a supporter of raiding as a frost mage. I have tried Fire/Arcane, Fire/Frost, Deep Fire, Deep Arcane and my current spec Frost/Arcane. I happen to love my current spec again. It was the spec I had for most of my time raiding. I can’t link it yet as I’m at work but when I get home I will add the link.

Anyway, we raided Gruul’s Lair last Sunday. It’s our normal day to raid GL so I really wanted to check out Icy Veins in a 25-man raid. I was actually top DPS for mages. I blacked out the names to protect the innocent, there are 5 people above me (shammy, hunter, fire mage, fire mage and hunter) I didn’t produce the most damage as I had a lot of cave-ins, but I did have the highest DPS during the encounter.

I here alot of people say that their guild won’t let the raid as anything other then fire. I know how hard it is to change peoples minds about something. I for one believe in the despite what you say I will prove it to you method. I am not the best geared mage in my guild. I still have so upgrades I want from Kara, GL, PvP and Heroic Badges but overall I can’t complain about my DPS. Here is my result from GL, still had a below 2% full resist rate on my frostbolt.
I say to all those people yakking on about how Frosties aren’t as good for DPS as fire and arcane; have you ever seen a frost mage in a raid. People probably have but the real test is were they playing the spec to their fullest? I have seen frost mages stand around and do some stupid things instead of DPSing the mobs. Every class has a *tard version, they do bring down the whole class. I usually try to point them in the right direction but you can’t expect everyone to actually improve.
Ok, enough rambling for now. I hope to get more WWS from TK, SSC, GL and Kara (when I can go). I would really like to see if my DPS really changes that much between raid dungeons.

I completely agree with you. Luckily in our guild and during our cross-guild 25 mans, we don’t tell people how to play their spec. It’s probably why we’re a little slow in progressing in 25 mans, but if you want to play frost, play frost. Arcane, fine. Granted, I am that cookie-cutter fire mage and usually lead everyone in DPS, but it’s not because I just got lucky and mash buttons while being a fire mage. I’ve done my homework. I have my hit rating at 164 (or thereabouts). I can get to 1100 fire damage unbuffed with just Kara items and tailoring/enchanting.
If you take the time to learn your class, you can play any spec. Don’t be tied to the cookie-cutter fire mage spec if you don’t want to play it. Kudos to you for proving all those wrong that force guildies to spec one way or another.
